[ Rehoming Unwanted And Neglected Hamsters... ]

About Us

Hamster Rescue (UK) is a small self funded rescue (Not a registered charity).  We understand and have experience of owning these adorable creatures and take in old, unwanted or neglected hamsters of any age and find them new loving homes. We occasionally have baby hamsters requiring new homes also.  In some cases, hamsters that do end up in our care are unsuitable to be rehomed due to their age, ill health or because of behavioural issues and these individuals will remain in our care.  These particular hamsters can be sponsored for a small amount which will go towards their care and any treatment required.

NOTICE: I will be unable to respond to any emails, donations of sponsorship or enquiries until Mid July, due to us moving location. I am sorry for any inconvienience.

No Kill Policy

Hamster Rescue (UK) cares for neglected and unwanted hamsters and any veterinary costs incurred, general welfare costs such as feed, bedding, housing, etc, are self-financed, or paid for by any donations that are gratefully received.

We do not judge anybody who decides that for whatever reason, they can no longer provide a home for their hamster (s). Our concern is for the welfare of the hamsters and at Hamster Rescue (UK), No hamster is ever "put to sleep", other than to alleviate suffering and only as a recommendation by our vet.

We are always grateful for any donations of unwanted small pet cages, toys, feeding bowls and water bottles suitable for hamsters, mice, gerbils, etc.

Any donated items can be delivered or posted to us at the address provided on the "How You Can Help" page. Unfortunately because of resources we are unable to collect.

Rehoming A Rescue Hamster

Consider rehoming a hamster from a rescue centre, as many hamsters of all ages, sex and breed unfortunately become abandoned or homeless through no fault of their own every year. Here at Hamster Rescue (UK), we assess the hamster's health and temperament on arrival and often carry out treatment if needed before rehoming them.

However, rehoming a hamster or other small animal from any rescue centre means that the animals background, or exact age are often unknown and temperament cannot be guaranteed. Any hamsters that are completely unsociable and aggressively bite will remain in our care.  We do our best to rehome only sociable hamsters to new families.

Our primary concern is to ensure the correct placement of the hamsters in our care with a suitable new owner. A donation (non-refundable) is required and pet cages or plastic carry containers can be purchased from us, or we will provide a cardboard travel box so that your new hamster travels to his/her new home safely.  We will always take back any of our hamsters if for whatever reason you decide that you can no longer provide the care required.

If you would like to rehome a hamster, sponsor one of our hamsters on the adoption scheme, or if you have a hamster you would like to hand into our care, then please contact us at: hamsterrescue@btinternet.com and we will contact you as soon as possible.

Make A Donation

We are always grateful for any donation made to Hamster Rescue (UK). This goes towards us continuing our work as a rescue and enables us to provide a safe sanctuary for hamsters until a new home can be found.
